Samsung launches Gear Fit health tracker with smartwatch-like notifications

Samsung knows that not everyone wants a Gear smartwatch on their wrist. That doesn’t mean there isn’t room for a wearable with some smartphone-like features, though. The company launched its Gear Fit wearable on Monday at Mobile World Congress, and it combines health tracking functions with some notification features from a connected phone.

Gear Fit is shaped like a wristband and has a 1.84-inch curved Super AMOLED screen with 432 x 128 resolution. That’s enough room to easily show the time, date and exercise information. Why stop there, though? Gear Fit can also display incoming text messages, calls, email and data from apps such as Samsung’s S Planner calendar app. Health data is tracked through a trio of sensors: an accelerometer, gyroscope and heart rate monitor.
