After flubbing mobile, Intel’s next big market play is telecommunications (again)
Intel missed the boat on mobile, and it may be facing a fight from ARM-based chips in the data center, but the chip giant isn’t going to sit back and lick its wounds. It is actively reaching out to the burgeoning maker and connected device crowd with development boards, it launched a new chip designed for the internet of things and it purchased an API management company. It is also going after a less sexy but still large market that seems ripe for some x86 chips — telecommunications.
Intel wants its chips inside the switches, routers and base stations that are the workhorses of the telecommunications network, even if it means making some sacrifices. To meet telecom’s requirements it will have to partner with another chip firm to get the right kind of processing power for base stations and change its focus from integrating everything into one…

HTC One successor’s release date possibly tipped by court filing
No matter what you call the successor to the HTC One – the HTC M8, the HTC Two, or maybe even the HTC One 2 – it looks like it could arrive early next year. That’s according to a court filing published today, which states the new phone might appear “as early as February 2014.”
The filing was published as part of Nokia’s(s nok) sales injunction on the HTC One and One Mini due to patent infringement. The document reads:
HTC is close to launching the successor flagship model to the HTC One. HTC has not revealed the launch date. Nokia has adduced evidence which suggests that the launch date is in the first quarter of 2014 and possibly as early as February 2014. HTC has not contradicted this.
February 2014 will mark nearly a year since the HTC One first went on sale, so that sounds about right…

Eles vão continuar a sair”, disse Alexander.

The Curious Case Of Henry Roth
While researching Henry Roth, author of Call It Sleep, I found his obituary as it appeared in The New York Times on October 15, 1995.
One of the more curious aspects of Roth’s career, as described in the obituary, was his absence from the literary world for nearly 40 years. He wrote Call It Sleep in 1934, when he was 28 years old. The book was well-received but only sold 4,000 copies and it soon went out of print.
Roth wrote 75 pages of another novel, but eventually succumbed to “writer’s block” and never finished it. He wouldn’t write another novel until the 1970s. As The New York Times puts it:

Apple’s facial recognition patent might allow you to unlock, control your device
Apple(s aapl) on Tuesday was awarded a patent for “Personal computing device control using face detection and recognition,” as noted by Apple Insider. That might sound a lot like Android’s(s goog) face unlock feature, but in addition to unlocking your device with your face, Apple’s technology could also allow you to control it.
The patent describes three separate processes that work together to allow you to control a phone, tablet, or computer. First, your face must be located through the camera via a face detection app. From there, it must be paired to an image of your actual face using facial recognition. After that, an input/output control application will enable your device to activate certain functions.
So in addition to simply unlocking your device, the technology could provide enhanced security benefits. For example, when you get a call, it can sense that you’re looking at your phone and display…
