Photos of an alleged Luigi-themed Nintendo 2DS have been sent to Kotaku by an anonymous tipster. If the images are real, a limited edition 2DS model commemorating “The Year of Luigi” may be released this year. Nintendo’s yet to confirm whether the system exists, but a Nintendo 3DS XL with green silhouettes of Luigi is set for a European release on November 1st.
Citing Disney’s successful ownership of both Marvel Studios and the Star Wars franchise, designer of popular games like Twisted Metal and God of War, David Jaffe, has stated that he believes Nintendo should be sold to Disney. In a new interview with HipHopGamer, Jaffe says that although he is a “fan of Nintendo,” he believes they should “do more with [the] brands,” at one point blatantly remarking that they need to “do some new s***.”
While on his Nintendo-themed tirade, he professed a reverence for Miyamoto, but claimed he is not a fan of Pikmin and that it’s been a while since Miyamoto has created something that really spoke to him. A new rumor making the rounds on the internet is touting the idea that Nintendo will be making a “ReUmagined” series in which the company gives seven Nintendo 64 games “the Wind Waker HD treatment,” remaking them in HD to be sold on the Wii U eShop. Supposedly, Super Mario 64 would be the first title, followed by six others, and all seven games would feature new content and retail at $30. The idea is that Nintendo would be filling gaps in their Wii U lineup of games by re-releasing the old N64 classics.
Some of the details on the hypothetical Mario 64 remake include a two-player mode in which both Mario and Luigi can be controlled simultaneously, with one camera following Mario on the main screen, and the other following Luigi on the gamepad.
