The Berlin startup scene has its first big exit of 2014, and indeed one of its largest yet: navigation veteran Telenav(s tnav) has picked up local OpenStreetMap specialist Skobbler for $23.8 million.

It’s not just good news for Berlin, either. For those involved in OpenStreetMap (OSM), a global, crowdsourced, open-source mapping project, it represents a potentially healthy consolidation. OSM founder Steve Coast recently joined Telenav, and Skobbler is the leader in OSM integration and commercial use. The team’s all together now, and all those 1.5 million OSM contributors will now see their work put to greater use — with a good deal more investment, too.

The nice thing about OSM is that, even when the data finds its way into commercial maps, anyone can still download it and find their own use for it. This is a markedly different model from Google’s, in which contributors can improve Google Maps…

Membros de um clube de natação de inverno foram vistos mergulhando e esfregando neve uns nos outros no rio Yenisei, na cidade siberiana de Krasnoyarsk, na Rússia.

O rio, que estava parcialmente congelado, teve a temperatura registrada em cerca de -24ºC.

Los Angeles TV stations KLCS and KJLA will conduct an interesting experiment in the next few months: they will try to merge their digital broadcasts onto a single TV channel.

The two stations are working with wireless industry group CTIA to investigate the feasibility of sharing TV airwaves, which could potentially clear up spectrum for commercial mobile broadband services. Why is this important? The Federal Communications Commission’s broadcast incentive auction is a little more than a year on the horizon. And the aim of that auction is to identify vast chunks of the 600 MHz TV airwaves that could be used by carriers for 4G and by the tech industry for unlicensed broadband.

To accomplish that, the FCC and the mobile industry need the cooperation of the broadcasters. If they don’t agree to part ways with their spectrum than there’s not going to be much of an auction…

While fighting through the ever-thickening fog on the evening before the main event at Pebble Beach, Nick and I were attempting to do some car-spotting before the sun disappeared and the fog descended, which ended up thwarting a good amount of our efforts to get some good pictures.  Luckily, that didn’t happen with this Spyker C8, which certainly wasn’t at all camera-shy.

Um puma invadiu a cozinha de uma casa em Santiago do Chile nesta quarta-feira (29), segundo as autoridades locais.

O animal foi descoberto pelo dono da casa e foi levado a um zoo local após ter sido sedado.

As autoridades ainda estão investigando como o felino foi parar no local.

Ninguém se machucou, segundo as autoridades.
