When Apple(s aapl) posted its year in review on Tuesday, it did something it has never done before: award an education app the top prize. Duolingo, the translation app that was recently updated with more gamified features, was named iPhone App of the Year — beating out VSCO Cam, Endless Alphabet, and other non-gaming apps for the top prize. A rep for the company indicates that this is the first education app that Apple has awarded with the honor, and that the 18-month-old app has more than 16 million users worldwide. The app is available for free on both iPhone and iPad.

Super Ubie Land has been renamed to Super Ubie Island. The game was originally called Super Ubi Land, but developer Notion Games was requested to alter the word Ubi so that people wouldn’t associate the game with Ubisoft, which is also known as Ubi. Nintendo recently told Notion Games to change the title’s name again, most likely to avoid confusion between it and Super Mario 3D Land.

Eu já disse que o Fedora 20 procura os codecs para o usuário, mas me esqueci de dizer que ele não vai encontrá-los sem o repositório rpmfusion habilitado.

Portanto, abra aí no seu Fedora 20 um terminal e rode os comandos necessários à instalação do rpmfusion, assim:

A senha do root será pedida, obviamente, e, após a instalação, que deve ser bem rápida, basta tentar rodar seus arquivos de mídia que os codecs serão encontrados e instalados.

I always look forward to heading out on the annual Wekfest Tour. Super Smash Bros. series director Masahiro Sakurai sent out a tweet a couple hours ago, reminding his followers that a new NIntendo Direct will air later today. His reminder to watch the broadcast apparently suggests that news on the upcoming Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS will be shared during the presentation. There are only a few more hours to find out for sure whether the game will be talked about, as the Nintendo Direct will go live at 6 a.m. PT.

With over a billion photos being uploaded to the Internet, there is a discovery problem, argues Lucas Buick, chief executive officer and co-founder of San Francisco-based Hipstamatic. To solve that problem of plenty, the company has launched a new version of its Oggl app.

The new (and much improved) version, Oggl 2.0 (which costs $10 a year), essentially is a meta photo-app/service that not only allows folks to aggregate their photos from Hipstamatic and Instagram, but it also has built in photo-capture capabilities. The company will add capabilities to integrate photos from other services, such as 500px and Flickr, relatively soon. Oggl 2.0 is currently for iPhones with  iOS 6 and above. An updated version for Windows Phone 8 will be released in the coming weeks.

A polícia de Nova York lançou nesta semana um detalhado mapa interativo sobre o crime na cidade, que permite aos cidadãos consultar o número de ocorrências e o tipo de delito registrado em sua rua, ou bairro, por mês, ou por ano, desde janeiro de 2012.

O “site” maps.nyc.gov/crime apresenta dados sobre sete tipos de crimes – entre eles, homicídio, estupro, roubo, furto e roubo de automóveis – em cada rua dos cinco bairros da cidade (Manhattan, Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn e Staten Island).

Os dados podem ser consultados por mês, a partir de janeiro de 2014, de maneira individual, ou em série, e incluem a taxa a cada mil habitantes.
