There are plenty of Cyber Monday discounts on Apple(s aapl) devices floating around out there, but the best one I’ve seen so far is at Staples(s spls). If you’re looking to pick up a new iPad Air, you can get the 16GB, space gray, Wi-Fi-only model for $449 – a $50 discount. Other models are discounted as well, mostly by $20 – $30. The deal is being offered until midnight or supplies run out. But if Apple isn’t your thing, you can nab a Kindle Fire HD or HDX from Amazon(s amzn) for $50 off as well.

Australia’s intelligence services have been happy — at least in principle — to share raw data about the communications of Australian citizens with espionage partners in the U.S. and Britain, according to the latest NSA leak published by the Guardian.

Australia is part of the so-called Five Eyes alliance, which was set up in the turbulent 1940s as a way for a core group of English-speaking nations to share signals intelligence with one another and to avoid spying on one another. The other members are the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and New Zealand.

The latest piece of surveillance-related information, brought to light by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, records a meeting held by the five countries’ intelligence services in 2008. At that meeting, the services discussed how comfortable they were with sharing metadata – the fragments of recorded information that tell the spooks who contacted whom and when.

Finland’s Jolla finally launched its smartphone late last week in Helsinki. The device uses an operating system called Sailfish OS, which is derived from Intel(s intc) and Nokia(s nok)’s old MeeGo OS.

Happily, friend of Gigaom Christian Lindholm was on hand to take some snaps of the occasion.

Much of the Jolla team used to be with Nokia, before then-CEO Stephen Elop decided the firm should switch to Windows(s msft) Phone as its high-end platform. At that point, the Linux-based MeeGo went out the window.

Jolla had a fairly tumultuous beginning — it’s already on its third CEO and early promises of big sales deals in China haven’t come to anything. The smartphone was launched on Thursday in conjunction with Finnish carrier DNA, which set up a one-night-only pop-up store. Thousands of customers also pre-ordered the device, which can run Android(s goog) apps, online.
