The official Nintendo UK webstore has currently reduced a whole bunch of digital Nintendo 3DS and Wii U titles. You can grab the Wonderful 101 for £8.95, and a ton of other acclaimed titles. Be warned though that they are digital download codes. Whether this is a pricing error remains to be seen, as titles such as Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Pikmin 3 have reverted to their original pricing.

Au revoir NFC? Carrier Bouygues reportedly cools on contactless payments
France’s Bouygues Telecom has effectively abandoned its program for using mobile phones as contactless payment devices, according to a report in NFC Times, a publication devoted to the relevant technology.
The report states that top executives associated with Bouygues’s near-field communications (NFC) efforts have left or are leaving the company. It says Bouygues, France’s third-largest mobile operator and a pioneer in the NFC field, will participate alongside banks and other telcos in a delayed national push for building out NFC infrastructure – making sure shops support the technology at the point of sale.
However, it says Bouygues will supply no promotion or customer support, and won’t provide “updates to the technology”. The reason for this is apparently financial – Bouygues is undergoing restructuring and is looking to cut costs – but it’s hard not to see this in a wider context.
NFC is still not a sure thing when it…

Mixed infrastructure offers advantages over pure-play cloud computing
Computing requirements can fluctuate dramatically from workload to workload. Some applications need to crunch through data, while others perform more-mundane functions such as serving customer-facing web pages. Only the demands of each workload should dictate its underlying infrastructure.
Therefore, the flexibility to choose and easily manage exactly the right combination of components is critical. There is no one-size-fits-all solution to IT infrastructure. Choice matters.
It may seem counterintuitive, but the economics associated with the cloud can best be maximized through a hybrid design incorporating bare metal. Combining dedicated servers with your cloud instances can both reduce the costs of crunching data and improve performance. This may also reduce compliance and security concerns with single-tenant components in the background for your sensitive databases and multitenant cloud instances for your customer-facing front end.
Pure-play cloud services can be as limiting as they are empowering. Pure bare metal providers can slow down your…

The search for the lost Cray supercomputer OS
In 1976, famed computer architect Seymour Cray released one of the most successful supercomputers ever made: the Cray-1, a stylish 5.5-ton C-shaped tower that was quickly embraced by laboratories all over the world. While it soon gave way to newer, faster Cray models that then faded away entirely in the ’90s due to huge cost and performance advances in supercomputing, its iconic shape and early success left a lasting legacy in the industry.
That legacy led hobbyists Chris Fenton and Andras Tantos to pose what they thought would be a simple question to answer: How can I build a Cray-1 for my desk?
A tiny replica takes shape
In 2010, Fenton, a New York City-based electrical engineer who actually works on modern supercomputers, decided to replicate the physical form of the computer. Its hardware was well-documented online, so building it came together quickly. Fenton used a CNC machine and glue…

Yowza! Nutanix nabs $101M in new funding to attack converged infrastructure
There’s a lot of juice left in the converged infrastructure market, or at least VCs think so. Case in point — Nutanix just netted $101 million in Series D funding, bringing total investment up to $172.2 million over four rounds. That puts the company valuation at a cool one billion or so.
Yes that’s a lot of dough, but Nutanix sees a market topping out at a whopping $100 billion as companies update and streamline their data center hardware, said Howard Ting, VP of product management for the San Jose, Calif. company. So this is a massive opportunity and there are also a ton of competitors circling it, including Pure Storage, Tintri, and Nimble Storage.
Another rival, Scale Computing, is apparently in an interesting alliance with Dell whereby Dell’s resellers can offer Scale’s converged hardware as needed. Still another, Simplivity, recently completed a $58 million round. But Nutanix sees itself going…

Shay Mitchell Shares More Photos While In Kenya! @shaymitch
The stunning star of ABC Family‘s Pretty Little Liars, Shay Mitchell, has been visiting on a trip in Kenya, enjoying the time spent there. Recently, she posted an instagram picture of her along with the people known as the Maasai, a semi-nomadic group known for their customs and dress. Shay was asking for those reading her post to help her support them by going to the Me to We Artisan website located here. It features eco-friendly alternatives to the products we use in everyday life.Though it may seem like it, the Me to We enterprise is not about making money, but the impact they make in other people’s lives. All the money they make is halved: one half going to Free the Children, the other half is reinvested to help grow the enterprise and mission. It is a part of many organizations with a goal to…
